Miscellaneous

Last month I sent out a survey to you about the sale of our art. So many artists I talk to are frustrated with the level of art sales. If you click on this link, you will see what people reported. Here's a really nice article on Selling Artwork in a Weak Economy.

Scams again! This one came to me in an email. I did a search on the guy's name and found lots of other artists were getting this email from him. "Aloha, Good day to you over there, My name is Charles Phey I'm from Hawaii and my eyes caught this particular work, i will like to have it for my new apartment this month.please let me know if the piece is available, if yes let me have the detailed price and more information about it. i will be waiting to read from you.Regards". Wanna have fun? Do a google search on Charles Phey.

Is there such a thing as artists going to far and being complete idiots to attract attention? Read about something that happened in Moscow a few months back.

By now it's old news that famed cartoonist of the Arab world Ali Farzat was beaten by the security forces in Syria. Here's his most provocative cartoon. Do we realize how incredibly lucky we are?

Four year old takes art world by storm! This is amusing, but remember that the gallery mentioned here is called in the trade a "vanity gallery". They charge artistsa heck of a lot of money to show there and then take a commission on top of it. So they really are not invested in whether the artist sells or not. They'll still make their money. So was this some kind of gimmick to promote themselves or did this come from the heart in the belief that this little girl was so special? You decide. I already have.

That story reminds me of a similar one about an 8 year old kid in England selling paintings for ghastly amounts.

Margaret Dyer is a master pastelist and is also teaching in San Miguel de Allende but in January 2012. My friend Vi is looking for a roommate so she can attend this class and save major bucks..

Jeanette Le Grue is teaching in Honfleur - the 'birthplace of Impressionism', June of 2012. Remember that if you room with someone based on my 2 for 1 special you'll each be saving in the neighborhood of $1000. Nice neighborhood.

Julie Cohn is teaching a watercolor painting workshop in Aix en Provence September 2012.There are already 8 people signed up so get movin' on this one.

artist quotes

"Color in a picture is like enthusiasm in life". Vincent Van Gogh

"I paint German artists whom I admire. I paint their pictures, their work as painters, and their portraits too. But oddly enough, each of these portraits ends up as a picture of a woman with blonde hair. I myself have never been able to work out why this happens".
Georg Baselitz

"I myself do nothing. The Holy Spirit accomplishes all through me". William Blake

"The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it". Gustave Courbet

''It is important to express oneself...provided the feelings are real and are taken from you own experience." Berthe Morisot

"I am for an art that is political-erotical-mystical, that does something other than sit on its ass in a museum." Claes Oldenburg
